Women Chiropractors Stand with the Black Community
The Women Chiropractors organization stands with the Black Community against structural racism. Our group is defined by more than 8,000 women chiropractors and chiropractic students from more than 60 countries. Our healing hands are at the heart of what connects us. It’s been a trying year for our community of healers.
Diversity amongst our board to be more reflective of our group as a whole has been a main topic of discussion leading up to the most recent murders of Ahmad Arbey, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd.
We understand this conversation is not easy. Transparency can be very scary. Women Chiropractors is a nonprofit and not a part of any political cause; however, we are a part of humanity and vitality. We stand for inclusion, unity, and diversity of each other, thought, and opinion within our group.
We are continuously and actively listening. Our organization is committed to actively seeking diverse voices for our teaching and learning environments including our convention, pop up seminars, and podcast series.
As admins of a Facebook group in addition to board members of a related nonprofit, we tend to lean on the side of not censoring our group. The majority of comments are positive. Our group has helped our minority group of women strive, reach new heights, and connect together. The past year we have received feedback that our group is not as inclusive as we might think. Some women of color do not feel comfortable sharing their stories, questions, thoughts.
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
We must admit to our shortcomings in order to move forward from them. Our patients deserve better, we deserve better.
We pray for change, a real-lasting change that brings true equality. We are listening, learning, and open to more dialogue. We don’t know what the future holds but please know that WDC stands for bettering people’s lives, your practices, your communities, and elevating the vitality of the human race.
